The Hungarian Software Engineering Institute (HUSEI) established and operating under the auspices of the Computer and Automation Research Institute of the Hungarian Academy of Science (MTA SZTAKI) organised in 2000 for the first time in Hungary with huge success the SEI accredited Introduction to the Capability Maturity Model® course. In order to satisfying the demands induced by the high-standard course and the recent professional developments, in association with the Irish ISCN organisation, we

is a course which gives an overview of the fresh, integrated version of the CMM applied to the software and systems development fields, called CMMism (Capability Maturity Model® Integrationsm). It is an interesting coincidence that CMMI was published in the second half of the year 2000 similarly to the new series of standards ISO 9000:2000. A special feature of the course is that in addition to the knowledge of CMMI, it offers the opportunity to participate at practical exercise sessions based on real experiences acquired at small and large European enterprises and to get acquainted with version 2.0 of the draft international standard ISO/IEC 15504 (SPICE~Software Process Improvement and Capability dEtermination).

The CMMI model provides a framework for the improvement of software development processes whose application was a requirement for being considered as a reliable business partner in the US already in the 1990’s. This will also be essential in Europe

CMMI is based on experiences acquired in one of the most advanced economies, its underlying model originating from TQM has gained acceptance for a long time, and is being extended to more and more areas. By consequent, its approach can prove to be of fundamental use when developing an also TQM oriented ISO 9001:2000 conform quality management system.
